Are you on a dedicated server with root access?
If so, have you considered for example throttling the amount of new connections in x secs/requests per IP/sec and maximum connections per IP? Also putting nginx in front might help you.

There really isn't anything that can be done...
You could ban the ip ranges at the host level or in htaccess...
However, it is more likely that what you are seeing is spammers or braidu bots, not actually ddns attacks.

I can't think of anything too complex. As long as the name is the same, you should be okay. If you're using a low-end (or home) router that doesn't do NAT reflection, you'll need to edit the hosts file of any internal system to access the site by name....

Settings.php contains database credentials, not ftp. You need to look in the ftp section of your host control panel for ftp creds.

I would ignore the FTP stuff and click on the red "here" - it will show you what filed need to be "chmod 777" or whatever ... get that sorted and try again as it will stop you from proceeding.

SMF wasn't updated since that time (2.0.11 is almost a year old). And it's not sure if it'll be fixed in 2.0.12 as our minor updates are mostly security updates.
